After a ripping demo tape, Raleigh, NC's Thieves unleash their debut 7". Like everyone else I imagine, I'm feeling a bit hungover after getting drunk on retro hardcore for the past few years, and if you're in the same boat then Thieves will be like a big greasy diner brunch the morning after. You can hear influences here and there--a riff that sounds a bit Japanese, a drum fill that's straight out of the Circle Jerks--but at the same time this feels like a hardcore record that couldn't have existed before the year 2010, though without feeling like the band is trying self-consciously to force the genre's boundaries. At the end of the day this is just an eloquent expression of rage, which is what hardcore is all about. Color vinyl.
