Super Fun Happy Slide is an Australian Grindcore band that has sadly been overlooked since its release on Bizarre Leprous Productions. It’s just as much fun as the words suggest, except for the fact that the slide in this context is completely rusted and corroded and in all probability, will scrape layers off your arse and whatever else that’s touching it, all depending on your commitment towards this debut release ‘The Undislodgable Nugget Scenario’. I can relate to it all too much since that’s the scenario in India with its poorly maintained public park slides and extra spiced food. The music is as raw as a backhanded smack across your face and it proceeds to keep doing that throughout the 25-odd minutes of this highly caustic, ear-bleeding Grindcore album. It’s madness in the form of short blistering songs in the early Napalm Death style, except for the vocals that are pitch-shifted which is quite an anomaly for this kind of music. Don’t make the mistake of interpreting them as soft low burping but instead expect violent, stinging barfing on your face, done after consuming mouthfuls of acid for this purpose. Drumming is mostly relentless but when it has to, it masterfully also slows down for those great build-ups to a physically cathartic outcome. There are leads too quite surprisingly which raise eyebrows but it’s all part of the chaotic madness. The band also has a sense of humour, evident from the band name to the artwork to the song titles often referring to the Australian Grindcore bands; it almost belies the rare intensity of the band’s music. ‘The Undislodgable Nugget Scenario’ is for the Grindcore purists in the complete sense of the term – it’s extremely raw, scathing, old school Napalm Death-derived Grindcore with vicious pitch-shifted vocals akin to Regurgitate on steroids, adrenaline-driven speed with an irreverential attitude – a wholesome, power-packed performance that will floor and rape everyone’s earholes with them screaming happy.
