ROTTEN SOUND
Cycles
CD
Case in point: Rotten Sound. Cycles, the bands first actual album since 2005s Exit, once again finds Rotten Sound at the top of its game. Grindcore with a socio-political bent seems to be what Rotten Sound has the knack for and, during the course of the record, it doesnt deviate much from it. Eighteen songs in less then thirty-four minutes means that every song has to jump out at the listener, as these songs do. This isnt your typical grindcore record where everything sounds like it is being recorded into the same microphone. Each instrument and throaty scream feels independent of everything else, and the record definitely benefits from this. Cycles is truly the first great metal record of 2008, and hopefully an indication of even better things to come.
