PHOBIA
Grind Core
7"
Phobia continues their legacy as one of the most intense, fierce and authentic grindcore bands out there. To be honest, I still have to listen to a disappointing album from this bunch of rockers, and Grindcore is not an exception. Brian Fajardo, again, continues being the best drummer in the business, not only at being so mechanical, precise and anal, but at maintaining a certain humanity in his playing. The rest of the band, CC, Calum and Dorian are also at the top of their game. They have the speed, control and sense of pride in what they do that guarantees that hundreds of kids around the planet consider trading their lame playstations for guitars. I really loved the vocal delivery of Shane in this release. He sounds more pissed and a bit more brutal than usual. Either that or Im getting too old for this kind of music. There are a lot of details in this album that make it great, but Im not going to name them all. The general feeling that I get is that this is a little bit more metal inspired than other releases and that they have tried to incorporate more unorthodox riffs into the tracks. I would like to mention that the death metal feel that Path of Destruction has, especially the tremolo riff at the beginning, is refreshing. Also Dont Hate the Pain, Hate the Game is another great example of how to mix punk and grindcore and not ending up sounding like shameful mess. Overall, this release has no flaws, it is fast, to the point and it has been created by a band that really knows how to grind not only your ears but your mind. Eight tracks that leave no prisoners behind. This is another Phobia release, take it or leave.
