GRIDE
1996 - 2003
CD
The Czech Republic to this day confuses the shit out of me with all the kickass metal it produces. Gride is yet another insane grind act out of this Eastern European region, but it doesnt quite live up to the heritage as set by its fellow country men. The music is strong, but sweet God those vocals are somewhat of a mix bag. The problem with the vocals varies from material to material on this discography release. At times the high pitched vocals seem forced and underwhelming, but at other times (namely when the music is accompanied by the lower, second set on the last half of the album) the vocals deliver just enough to satisfy. Musically, though, Gride is clear in that department. This is catchy- sometimes groove-laced- grindcore with an addictive appeal. The problem though is that the weaker vocals on songs like "Nadeje v Mijeni" and "Znovu a Opet Znovu" really hold back the appeal of the music. However, what Gride lacks vocally earlier in the album they make up for in spades with the rest. The album covers a 7 year span with 49 tracks, but thats just the beginning. When you throw this baby in your PC you also get one of their earlier demos in its entirety (the Green Illness demo, though it suffers from the same vocal fate), some videos, and an assload of posters, flyers, and other pictures. If you can ignore the faults of the vocals, the music and sheer amount of content should make it worth the effort.
