FONDLECORPSE/ INKBLACK
Split
7"
Inkblack plays some solid death metal; it's quite melodic with thrashing riffs, hard-hitting drumming... And a very pronounced heavy metal & thrash metal touch to it. Song are tightly structured, in a really clear-cut manner, they made me think of Massacre ("From Beyond") mixed with Kreator maybe. Vocals are also a mix of growls and of a slightly clearer thrash metal-type voice. Occasionally pounding, fast & at other times just catchy and very metal-sounding. All around good musicianship, nicely composed tracks, plus a nice and clean sound production make for a very fun listen! Fondlecorpse Review: Starts off with an intro from "Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer": always a great mood-setter! Fondlecorpse is all about pounding death-grind... It's got ripping riffs and a nice, salient bass sound. The drums appear to be programmed, however they always feel natural and consistent... good job there too. Vocals alternate between deep guttural growls and higher throaty shrieks... Sound quality is just fine in my opinion, clean but not too clean. Like Inkblack, they slightly remind me of Massacre with maybe a little more Repulsion characteristics thrown in this time. The horror-influenced lyrics are a hoot and the cover layout is awesome, with an amazing front artwork by Jake (Tales from Uranus), a complete lyrics sheet and a fun back cover designed like a dvd cover...
