If "grind" hadn't already been in use by '92, "sludgegrind" would have been a better descriptor than "sludgecore," at least as far as Eyehategod, Grief and Buzzoven were concerned, cause Eyehategod didn't always swing and Grief never fucking did. Fistula splits the difference between those two groundbreaking sludgecore acts: half swamp groove, half dirge grind. Burdened By Your Existence is filled with down-strummed superheavy doom marches that almost groove before dropping into a torturous slowly grinding turnabouts: this is uncomfortable listening because Fistula have mastered the abrasive art of sludge riffery: one part brass knuckle attack, one part foot-dragging sloth, one part Southern-fried filth. Feedback, Sabbath-on-downers riffs and a mean fucking disposition make this a challenging listen. Fistula brings back the hatred and disgust that made Grief a force of inhuman nature, and the confrontational attitude that has kept Eyehategod going for twenty years.
